Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative

10,000 Small Businesses is a $500 million, 5-year initiative to unlock the economic growth and job-creation potential of 10,000 small businesses across the United States through greater access to business education, financial capital and business support services. Los Angeles City College has partnered with the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses initiative to help small businesses in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan region to grow and create jobs. Through the support of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, business owners selected to participate in the LACC 10,000 Small Businesses education programs will receive a full scholarship covering tuition and program materials. Los Angeles City College has opened enrollment for the February 2011 “10,000 Small Businesses Business and Management Education Program”.

About the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative

The 10,000 Small Business program at Los Angeles City College will run from February through June, 2011. The program is comprised of 11 sessions, including two Friday sessions from 8:30am-5:30pm and nine Saturday sessions, which generally meet on alternating Saturdays from 8:30am-5:30pm.

An exact class schedule will be available in January 2011. The participants must also commit 6-8 hours per week for out of class activities geared towards their business. In addition, all participants will be require to complete a growth plan prior to graduation. The benefits of the program include business education curriculum developed in partnership with Babson College and other leading business schools, and taught by LACC faculty, local educators, and business experts. Integrated, comprehensive business support services. One-on-one business advising. Peer-to-peer learning with fellow CEO’s in class, and peer relationship building. Access to mentors, technical assistance, and alumni services. Potential to access to capital for qualified applicants

Target Applicants: 10,000 Small Businesses is designed for business owners who operate a business that is poised for growth. Applicants must be the owner of a business that generally meets the following criteria:

  1. Businesses in operation for at least two years
  2. Business revenues between $150,000 and $4.0 million in the most recent fiscal year
  3. Business with minimum of 4 employees (including the business owner)
  4. The potential and desire to grow and create jobs in the community
  5. In addition, broad characteristics of business owners targeted to participate include, but are no limited to:

a) Limited access to a business and management education  program
b) Limited financial  resources to obtain a similar level of education
c) Limited access to capital
d) A desire and motivation to grow the business and create jobs

Applicant Requirements: Submit a “complete” application with all “required documents”prior to and no later than5:00pm PST on January 3,2011 for the February 2011 Cohort.  This deadline applies to all forms of submittal for applications: e.g. electronic submission, hand delivered, mailed, and faxed applications and/or etc.
